DCW 2022 Review

Digital Construction Week 2022 in London wrapped up last week. We participated in the event as an exhibitor in one of the spaces and had a really good experience. It was our first time exhibiting outside of Hong Kong and are thankful to have such a well ran event to support us in this endeavor. It was amazing to get back to the “new normal” as many conventions and expos were cancelled over the last few years.

TLDR: Great Event! A lot of solutions! I wouldn’t attend every year (unless it was close-by) Definitely worthwhile to see every-other-year as tech evolves quickly.

Event setup, they sure do work fast!

Our Observations

The majority of exhibitors were software solutions and not services. We knew this going into the event and wanted to show the visitors here how we put the vendors solutions to work on projects. It worked really well to demonstrate this to guests in an unaffiliated manner, giving them a sense of how the products could or should be used.

I did not get a chance to hear many presentations, as we were busy running the booth, but rumor has it the talks lacked “sustenance” and there were not many takeaways or learning opportunities in the presentations. They were mostly “Look at what we did.” “Look at our product.” “Here are some pictures of what we did, trust us, we did it.” type of presentations. Again, I only witnessed a few, but I hope in the future the organizers will consider having a better learning experience option at one of the zones dedicated to talks. Let people get into the knowledge share and learning more.

It is also worthwhile to note there were multiple construction industry events happening at the same time at the ExCel venue and in similar verticals, like the GIS event which was connected to the DCW hall. This helped to get more people into the exhibition as they could easily make a day out of visting all of the events.

Classifications of Vendors

Stand-out Vendors

  1. Cintoo - Point-Cloud to Mesh Convertor and online processing and storage of laser scan data. Affordable and very useful for scan-to-bim works.

  2. Scaled Robotics - An innovative solution of analyzing point-cloud data against BIM models and presenting issues automatically to resolve issues.
